We took a drive up to Spencer ID in Targee National Forest and played in the mountains all day yesterday till the sun went down. All of Shaun’s brothers are in town which is rare. Troy lives in Japan and Travis lives in NV. Travis brought his trailer and 4wheelers again. The weather couldn’t have been any better, It was perfect…

We had a lot of fun. Mom went for a few walks, but decided not to ride the 4wheelers this time. We sat in the comfy chairs, took a hike, opened all the windows and enjoyed the breeze, good food and lots of laughter.

She likes to test her independence and I know she still has a healthy sense of fear, so when she said I’m going for a walk, I hung back and let her explore on her own. She did it about 3 times, but man was is nerve wracking to have her walk out of my sight. I feel like I’m a mother to a toddler sometimes, but she gets upset if I hover. The line between her capabilities and me not taking the mother role is so blurry. I truly expect her to be a fully functional adult, but then news headlines flash in my brain … “Elderly woman with Dementia, lost in National Forest”

We survived, and mom kept her independent nature one more weekend
