Hospice

Eating and drinking are a daily struggle again, she has no interest at all. Even ice cream is too cold lately, which was the only sure thing I could get her to eat. She’s losing weight, her pants are falling off. I broke down at work to my manager who insisted I call Hospice for an evaluation.

On Thursday last week her urine was so concentrated Kristy thought she had a uti, but after pushing fluids till Karen hated me, her urine is normal again. I have a hospice nurse coming today, to talk about what to do if she actually does get an infection, do we treat symptoms only? It’s something that weighs heavy, but honestly urosepsis would be the best outcome for her passing dignified. After working in nursing homes and having patients beg me to kill them, I don’t think I could ever do that to her. Its a weight on my shoulders daily.

  1. Dear Katie this makes me so sad I had no idea that is was progressing so fast. I can only imagine how hard this is. Watching both parents through hospice was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Please keep me posted when you can. I’m sorry I never got a Christmas card to her this year. We moved back to AZ during Christmas so no cards were sent. I wish I could give her a hug!
    Your in my thoughts,
    Julie
