Home or house?

This cute cottage next door got a FOR SALE sign today. It’s probably the smallest house on our block and the last one to get any tlc. In an ideal world where money was no object I would love to buy it and fix it up. Home values in my neighborhood have risen significantly in the last 3 years since we have moved in, but they are still undervalued compared to most. I casually mentioned to mom that she could have her own space right next door and she became very upset, stating “are you trying to get rid of me?” It took both Shaun and I half the day to calm her fears and remind her we made her wing of our house specifically just for her and it’s only hers till she decided otherwise or dies. I was sorry for bringing it up, but in my defense she has been reminiscing at least once a week of aunt Lea’s home in Millcreek of how she would love to live in a small home like that.

In reality I know it would not be feasible at this point. She cannot figure out light switches and appliances, let alone be responsible for an entire home. She says she would be scared all alone, it’s hard enough that occasionally, one day a week, nobody is in the home for around 3-4 hours. Although JoAnn is literally right next door at all times.

We kept very busy today, dentist for teeth cleaning, grocery shopping at Winco, a lunch date to Kneaders, walk around the mall, car wash, and the post office.

Tomorrow I have another day off and I promised her a movie date.

ps. If anyone is interested in a great deal on a cute little home……. I still have the aspirations of a co-living, communal housing community with my family (a girl can dream) 😉

  1. You’re on a rough road, that is only going to get worse. I’m so sorry. I wish we were closer, so we could help. If it were a few years down the road, we would love to live down the street. If you need anything, we’re here. Much love honey. Your doing a great job and you won’t regret it later.

  2. You are right, cute house. You should buy it and fix it up, and maybe some day have your kids could live there 🙂! With Ashli and her family living so far away, I often dream of them living next door! They are driving out in June, and will be here from the 14th to 18th. You are doing a great job, and I appreciate your blog so much. Glad I got the problem fixed, and am now receiving your posts regularly.
