Things that make sense
There are many items that are necessary in our lives now, that I had never thought about before mom moved in.
But I can’t imagine how we would survive without them now. I’d say of all the necessary things, the one item I am most grateful for today is the weighted blanket. It’s amazing how a 12 pound item can proved such peace of mind. It helps her sleep all night and keeps her warm. She is always complaining about how cold she is, due to no body fat. 🙄
The second most helpful item would be the Magic Bullet. At this point all she will eat is smoothies. We use various combinations of protein powder with bananas, Greek yogurt, spinach, frozen fruits, peanut butter and sometimes honey for sweetness.
Medication is definitely easier to administer with a pill crusher and spoon full of sugar. And a lock box is necessary due to all the people coming and going in and out daily.
The Digital Calendar Day Clock on her mantle was great at the beginning stages when she would ask what day it was on repeat. Now it helps me personally when I’m giving meds and writing down dates and times on her medication log.
Obviously the Google Nest Camara is a huge help to keep an eye on her and other people in her room throughout the day to make sure she is safe, and I occasionally use it as a monitor at night.
I also keep a Blood Pressure Monitor and Fingertip Pulse Oximeter Blood Oxygen Saturation Monitor handy for checking vital signs when I’m curious.
We also use her Google home speaker daily to play music. At this point music is her only entertainment. She’s not able to read or follow movies anymore.
Various safety railings, handles, grips and grab bars were installed during construction. I honestly wish I had more. We just installed the toilet frame this week. I wish I had done it sooner.
So many things to make life easier that I had never thought of before living with this disease every day.
