Funeral planning (She’s still alive)

I’ve been asking for help from the hospice team for funeral planning. Danny, our visiting Chaplin has been so extremely helpful. This is the info he sent me…..

A local Funeral Home can coordinate with a funeral home in Salt Lake, if that is your choosing.

Funeral Homes do have a packet and checklist that clearly outlines your wishes for a funeral service.
A funeral home will want to know what you want on the following:
Religious or non religious funeral
Bishop or family member or funeral home director to officiate. (Funeral home director can often help find a bishop. Several funeral home directors will officiate too, of needed.)

Location of service, church or funeral home or graveside only
Family or public viewing.
Who Pall bearers are
Order of service: Special songs, readings, etc.
Funeral Homes are able to make a video slide show with music. Families must scan or provide copies of photos and music selections.

This is just a suggested order of service, but again, feel free to make it what you as family want.

Welcome and prayer or reading
Song or Reading
Life Sketch/Biography
Video slide show (I have seen it’s often difficult for someone to talk through a life sketch right after a touching slide show)
Open Microphone for anyone to share memories.
Speaker (either religious comments or family member sharing thoughts)
Closing prayer and instructions about graveside interment. Any other announcements.

Dedicatory Prayer at graveside. LDS leader or LDS family member should know this type of prayer.
Flowers / boutonnieres placed on casket by family, or special something that typified your mom (Things like balloon release, song played, everyone gets a Coke or homemade huckleberry wine. Everyone gets a cigar (I’ve seen lots of very personal and special things fitting to the deceased one’s life)
Hope this helps.

I wish we had a book like this filled out prior. I would have such an easier time getting all the little details.
