Escaped

I’m questioning my ability to keep her safe. Saturday my neighbor brought her home, she wandered almost to the church a block away while we were working in the backyard.
Sunday I found her in the BACK of Shaun’s tinted window car, she was missing for 15 minutes, it was 80 degrees outside, and her face was red by the time I found her.
Then I had the brilliant idea to take her with me to meet Shaun and the boys at a friend’s property in Blackfoot where they had parked the RV. Jack texted they needed marshmallows so I stopped at Brolums in Shelley on the way. Left the car on air conditioning, radio, her seat belted. Cause she can never figure out how to get off the seat belt or use the door handle when I need her to, not to mention both simultaneously. I came back less then 5 minutes to an EMPTY CAR! Pure panic. I’m screaming her name, running around the parking lot to everybody I see. Have you seen a confused old lady with grey hair? Grab a bagboy to make an announcement inside, then book it to the busy street to make sure she’s not wandering in traffic.
It seemed like forever, but probably minutes later I see her walking with somebody on the side of the building. The lady had called the police.
I asked if she had noticed her medical alert bracelet, but she did not. It’s my fault for buying a nice trendy one. I’ll be looking for a standard one now.
I’ve aged 10 years this weekend. Panicking while she’s oblivious. I can’t get mad. π«
