Keeping Mom Busy
What to write about…. we are in the middle of winter. Depressing, cold, nothing to do, nowhere to go winter. Mom is happy these last few days. They have discontinued her Aricept and Namenda, and increased her anxiety medication from 0.25 to 0.5 mg. We now have an aid coming Monday, Wednesday, Friday to help with cleaning and showers, on top of Kristy coming daily. She takes her outside for a couple hours, listing to The Carpenters. She’s still not eating well, we are getting 2 bites of dinner if lucky, and sometimes a banana. She was in bed before 5pm tonight, missed dinner altogether.
Tonight I was watching Walter Mitty in her room with her. She blurted out “I don’t even know her name!” I asked her “Do you know my name?” she did not. I tried to jog her memory. I did not work. “My name is Katie, Kathryn” “Oh, yes” she said. Still no recognition.
She still loves her animal print blanket, and her half dozen bright pink placemats, folding and unfolding for hours a day. I have tried to give her options, bought her some more sensory fidget, bubble push pop.
It seems to help. Skin picking is still a big issue. We keep Tegaderm on her sores daily, but they do not stay on for more then an hour. Her back and shoulders look like pox. Its a constant battle.
I also bought a Bidet, after I was told I was a pervert. So there’s that. Hope it works.
