Harvest & Chickens

Mom helped sort fruit while we blanch and store vegetables. She so much wants to help when I’m busy in the kitchen. Today started with me putting green beans to snap in front of her, but the red cherry tomatoes and strawberries are too distracting. So I gave her bowls and just let her transfer things from one bowl to the next.

We got eggs!
Joe

This guy has come a long way with the birds. From almost hating them, to making friends and telling stories about their silly antics. We finally got eggs this week. Miss Betty Poop decided to lay a few in the window well. We struggled to retrieve them under the stairs from the outside when it occurred to me to just go in the basement and take the screen off the window. But I decided I like the idea of getting eggs from the comfort of the basement so why not!

My chickens are the best. Although slightly clingy, and we have to put them away if we are eating outside, because they associate people = food. They all have unique personalities and love attention. They come running up to us for petting and I have to give them individual attention for a few minutes every day before they are satisfied to go back to chasing bugs, dirt bathes and keeping the raspberry bushes picked clean. They are quite spoiled and if I ever have to use them as meat, I’m going to be a sad chicken momma.

Mom likes to watch them and follows me around the yard when I feed or talk to them. She calls them like a dog, unfortunately they do not respond in that manner. Mostly they are a great source of visual entertainment for her, or occasional excitement if one tries to jump in her lap.
