Valentine’s Day

Dad sent mom a lei fresh from Hawaii, which is perfect timing, because this week has been Hawaii week in her mind. “🎶 I wanna go back to my little grass shack in Kealakekua Hawaii 🎵” she sings daily. Staring wistfully at the three feet of snow outside.

It can be a blessing and a curse at this point she has completely forgotten about the last 30 to 40 years, except for snippets of emotionally tying experiences and obviously Hawaii was one of those. She has altogether forgotten about her previous marriage to Clane and if she comes across any of his items like glasses or a hat, she brings them out to me puzzled why men’s items are in her room. She remembers being married to Royal and the fact that he is around but not coming to “rescue her” confuses her.

She definitely remembers her childhood home on Lavon circle, and to her that is “home”. If she hears anyone talking about Salt Lake City her ears perk up and she talks about wanting to go home. She “still owns that house” in her mind, and she “can simply move in and go back to work as a teacher if we simply get her a car to pack up and leave”. I’m definitely the bad guy for making her stay in her eyes.

According to the book the 36 Hour Day when she says “I want to go home” what she means is “I want to go back to the condition of life, the quality of life, when everything seem to have a purpose and I was useful, when I could see the products of my hands, when I was without the fear of small things”
