Movies, signatures and Advance Directives
We had a fun Christmas Break, we went to the movies twice, once to see Star Wars, and Cats. Mom and JoAnn loved Cats! I was questioning my existence half way through, but it was somewhat entertaining. Then JoAnn took us all out to eat at Olive Garden.

We played cards and board games till very late every night. One late night mom had obviously been sleeping, came out of her room babbling and not making any sense. I gave her a bowl of ice cream and then she went back to bed. It was disconcerting but she seemed okay the next morning. I have heard if it happening to other dementia patients when woken during sleep cycles. The only way to reverse the confusion is to go back to sleep.
Dad called and is planning a trip up when the weather stabilizes. He is selling his timeshare, and needed moms notarized signature. I tried to explain that’s nearly impossible now, we had just renewed her temple recommend and I took a picture of her signature with the 2 year difference….

At work we are assigned to read and acknowledge policy and procedure changes. End of year is full of them. When one comes up that has personal meaning, such as Comfort Care Protocol, I tend to pay close attention, knowing this is my future. I feel the need to educate my family to the reality of moms situation. I’ve seen families torn apart over these moral issues. Face to face is always better to have these conversations, but if anyone wants to talk about it I’m very open and we need to have these hard conversations now, not later.
