Dad visiting

My dad rode the St. George Express up to us this weekend. He brought mom some flowers, and even better his presence and humor.

He played a game of marbles with Jack, mom and I, took mom for walks, and out to dinner at Chuck-a-Rama.

Mom only got him lost once. She swears she knew where she was, but they were about 3 blocks off her “usual route” when I found them. It’s been a while since she has been on her daily walks, but dad gives her confidence, and her healthy sense of fear disappeared to be replaced by a bravado and determination to show him how competent she is.

I figured that would be the case when they left the house, and dad is not at all familiar with my neighborhood, so when 30 minutes passed by, I told Joe, “it’s time to go looking for your grandparents!”

I do worry about her wandering off, and she refuses to wear her medical alert bracelet, and forgets her Gismo watch. Today I’m going down to the police station to ask if they keep records for dementia patients somewhere in case something happens.

On another note, I was given a unexpected 5 day weekend coming up, so I am determined to get mom around to see family while she’s still able. This time we are going to see Greg in Colorado!!
