Memorial Day 2019

Met with all moms siblings, Brent (who looks exactly like Grandpa in pictures), Larry, Ron, Linda and Nancy who was camera shy (missing Barbara) at the Golden Corral in Salt Lake for Memorial Day. Mom was ecstatic to see them and remembered everyone. Her long term memory is intact, but she did get called out by little London (after mom asked her 3 times what her name was and how old she was), for “being forgetful” which of course mom was slightly offended and exclaimed “I’m not forgetful!” 😂 She tried to tell her Princess Diana story, mixed in with her 9/11 story to Linda, Sherry and Rita, who got to see a little bit of her confabulations.

It was a good trip, except for repeating myself for two days straight even after writing down a detailed itinerary which mom lost in an hour. “Who? what? when? where? why?” Every 30 minutes. My caregiver compassion fatigue is showing when there is no buffer. She had become an expert mountaineer and had climbed every Mountian range we passed all down the Wasatch front by the time we made it into Salt Lake City. And I don’t think I could have made it another mile with her riding shotgun, due to her jumpy, gasping, hand gesturing every time a car merged next to us or put on brakes in front of us. 😖🙄😡

Thank goodness David came to breakfast with us, and I got to sneak away after mom fell asleep Sunday night to meet with David at Redrock Brewery. (Just like being a teenager again, haha) too bad it’s lousy Utah beer. I warned the front desk just in case she got confused and wandered downstairs, but she had a big dinner and a long walk around downtown was out like a light.

  1. It was a great day. So good to see everyone, and so glad Karen was part of it. Thank you for making the drive down. Great pictures BTW. I got most of the same ones you did, except for that cute one of KAREN with LONDON. it’s the eighth one down, could you message that one to me. Sorry London mentioned Karen’s forgetfulness. We will give both London and Thatcher a heads up next time. They are very good about being sensitive, when they are informed. Thank you for the pics.
