Happy new year πŸŽˆπŸŽŠπŸŽ†

We had a fantastic news year party. Countdown, board games, cookies. Chinese dinner, minute to win it game, goals….

Mom made it till 8:00 pm and went to bed. But the next day was very involved and talkative. She amazingly was out of her room more then in. I’ve been trying to coax her out for weeks. But between not being able to communicate properly and keeping her room temperature at 80 degrees, thinking we are freezing her at 68 degrees. It’s hard for her to follow conversation at all anymore. She misconstrues every sentence and then responds inappropriately almost every time. It’s hard to tell sometimes if it’s her hearing or her brain, unfortunately I think it’s a brain issue, since the audiologist ruled out hearing issues. When I give her something she stares at it for many moments trying to process, whether it’s her daily medication or a movie. I gave her a large print crossword puzzle on New Year’s Eve and it was too much.

Linda called New Year’s Day. It was an interesting to hear conversation on my end. Mom was talking about England and being a first responder to disasters at the castle. I’m not sure if Linda knew Mom was talking about a movie that she constructed into her own life or not. Linda played along well anyway.

The room slightly changed with her closet being installed has thrown a wrench into her routine. She doesn’t recognize her things… her same old tv and dvd have become new to her and she’s frustrated that she forgot how to use them because in her mind it’s all new and different.

Yesterday she started paranoia talk of people breaking in stealing Clane’s paintings. After reassuring her that we live in a very secure neighborhood and we have security cameras inside and outside, she calmed down again (Until the next time).

She still loves helping with the dishes, but forgets to use soap and more often then not, then uses the used washcloths to dry and put dishes away. Fortunately she forgets where most things go and just spreads them out on the counters where I can rewash things after she leaves.

Im not sure I’m looking forward to what this year has in store for mom. πŸ™
