In my caregiver support groups, I get many suggestions of websites or videos, I’m trying to put them all in one place for easy access. I’ll keep updating this with new links as they come…

Social Security Office told us what needed to be done and where to go to get help. If there is not a spouse involved…If there is property involved it must be sold for fair market value and that money (along with any savings, investments, etc.)is used to pay for care. Once that money is down to $2000 (states vary the amount) then Medicaid will start paying. All Social Security, retirement accounts and any other income goes towards their care except for $50-60 per month which is to be used for personal items. Keep records of all financial actions. Medicaid will do a look back of 5 years. If any money was received or anything sold within those five years that amount of money will have to be spent on your LO’s care. As soon as you know your LO is ill….it’s time to figure out your money situation. No matter what stage they are in…remember there is a 5 year look back. If there is a spouse involved….they can remain in the home and continue living there even after the LO dies. But, after the spouse dies the state can/will claim the property for the amount they invested in care of the LO. Some states are a little different but I think most are very similar. I hope that helps.
