Happy #73!!

These were the framed photos she was given as presents from our reunion in May.

Lots of birthday celebrations today, I’m so glad I had the day off to make mom’s day special. A cinnamon roll breakfast, presents, Olive Garden lunch, and concert in the park.

Although I really wish my siblings would call her. I thought Mother’s Day may have been an oversight, but now her birthday too?!?

Sorry for the vent. Feeling very frustrated by my family lately. Outta sight outta mind I suppose. Even when mom was MIA in California or Arizona I would at least send flowers or a gift by mail. And definitely a phone call. I assumed my siblings did the same, but I’m beginning to feel that was not the case. She’s been here almost a year, one or two visits, but no phone calls from her kids on her special occasions. I’m disappointed and sad. I’m just glad she is out of touch enough to not quite notice.

  1. Enjoyed your post tonight of your celebration of Karen’s birthday. Love how you have adopted Karen, and made her a part of your family. Karen and I share the same birthdate and age. You are giving Karen a quality of life she would never have had otherwise. I notice how much she smiles and laughs in the videos and pictures you post. You are doing the right thing, but I understand it can be discouraging sometimes. Following is a poem I always read when I am discouraged, it will put things in perspective for you.

    Sometimes life can be challenging – it takes strength and courage to walk a noble path. Occasionally you may think it would be easier to not take responsibility, be honest, give or even be kind. However, before you do that you may like to read this poem by Mother Theresa called “Do it Anyway”.

    “People are often unreasonable, illogical,
    And self-centered;
    Forgive them anyway.

    If you are kind, people may accuse you
    Of selfish, ulterior motives;
    Be kind anyway.

    If you are successful, you will win some
    False friends and some true enemies;
    Succeed anyway.

    If you are honest and frank
    People may cheat you;
    Be honest and frank anyway.

    What you spend years building,
    someone could destroy overnight;
    Build anyway.

    If you find serenity and happiness,
    they may be jealous;
    Be happy anyway.

    The good you do today,
    people will often forget tomorrow;
    Do good anyway.

    Give the world the best you have,
    and it may never be enough;
    Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

    You see, in the final analysis
    it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.”
    (Mother Theresa)

    • Thank you, I pride myself on being able to take the higher road in most occasions, but sometimes I need the reminder to stay positive. I’m so lucky to get to spend this time with my mom. I’m so glad for my family who is supportive and strong when I am weak. I’m very blessed and grateful for what I have.

      • Thank you. We had a great family reunion while Ashli and her family were out here. It is very rare that we get ALL our kids together and 7 grandkids at the same time.
