Hobbies
Mom has been wanting to paint since she arrived. We had bought canvas, paints, a smock and she had a easel. For months the canvas has been blank, although every once in a while she would walk into the kitchen with her smock on, and I would get excited and ask, “are you painting today?” she would smile and said she was just getting things organized. She is very proud of lining her brushes up by size and having a nice white canvas on the easel. But still the brushes remade clean. I would ask if she needs something else and she states, “probably”. When I press, she says she “would know it when she sees it”. So another trip to the art supply store and we stand in the doorway and she turns to me and says “what are we picking up today?” I say I don’t know, lets take a walk down the paint isle and see what jumps out at us. We find manuals and books with landscape scenes and she states “well thats just cheating!” I said, “I think it’s called inspiration.” So we get a book, then a palette, she picks the best they have. Still days go by and when she proudly shows me her progress, its still just rearranging her brushes by size and no paint on the brushes.
This week she has decided she wants to learn french. So I found fabulous french teacher who gives hours of lessons on YouTube. She has been listening to him all day and coming into the kitchen practicing her french accent.
We have been keeping somewhat of a vigil in the ICU at Aunt Jerys bedside. Mom has gone up with me a few times. Things are looking grim and the doctor thinks this weekend will be her last. It’s been a revelation for all of us to get important papers completed, mom included. She has stated many times, she does not want machines keeping her alive. I have the legal documents and we will be finishing and notarizing those this week.
