Dentist & Hiding

Monday was Greg’s birthday. I mentioned it to remind her to give him a call and then on Tuesday I asked her if she talked to him, but she said she forgot. Then Wednesday I asked if she had wished him happy birthday, and again she looked confused so I helped her call Greg. I’m pretty sure she is forgetting how to use her phone. We had Christmas music going on in the background and she forgot that she was calling to wish him a happy birthday and instead wished him a merry Christmas eve.

On Tuesday we had a visit from the home health nurse in the morning she has been picking at her skin lately. Then went shopping to pick up warm socks for her. Even though she insisted on going before we left the house, I had to remind her multiple times when we got there what she was shopping for. Then to lunch at Applebee’s. I made a horrible mistake and I had a salad with seafood in it. My vegetarian stomach protested for hours after. Mom didn’t like her chicken she said it had too much soy sauce on it. So the food from our lunch date was a bust.

She had an appointment with Creekside Dental on Wednesday. Dr. Kidman fitted her with the permanent crown. We had gone to the 10 o’clock appointment and when they put in the crown the dentist decided he didn’t like the fit and had to send it back to the lab for a few hours so we did some grocery shopping and came back to get the crown refitted at 1 o’clock. Walking out she stated “I never had a dentist leave a job unfinished.” I asked her what she meant and I guess because her mouth was sore she was not certain they were done with her. When I asked her later if her tooth was bothering her, she did not know what I was talking about so it must be OK now.

Today Shaun, JoAnn, mom and I ran a bunch of errands after I got home from work, the post office and stopped over to aunt Jery’s house to visit for about an hour. She introduced herself to Jery like it’s the first time they have met, even though we have seen her 3 times just this month. We also went to Michael’s to do some Christmas shopping. Picked up her prescription at Mike’s pharmacy. Then Fred Meyers for some sale items.

It seems like she’s having a downhill week, lots of repeating herself and hiding in her room. I think she is embarrassed sometimes when she cannot join regular current event conversations. She dwells in the past, ruminating about childhood stories. Then insists her memory is flawless.

I found an interesting article from Australia that they are reversing dementia.

Good article from the UK…
